Welcome to ListeningPal -
an app that makes the act of seeking support accessible, affordable, and welcoming to all.
Overview
We are a sponsored project working with ListeningPal, a mental health services startup founded by University of Washington alum, Tian Westland.
Over the past five months, we were tasked with creating a system of apps to bring this company to life. Tian found a market opportunity to bring affordable, anonymous, reliable peer-support to young adults and people in emotionally-tolling careers who could use a listening ear - in the form of a ListeningPal!
We created two apps that connect users to trained peer-support pals via appointment scheduling and thirty-minute calls. Learn more about the apps' features below.
Problem Statement
How might potential ListeningPal users have a comfortable and seamless experience accessing peer support so they can derive maximum value from the ListeningPal app and are satisfied with the support they receive?

How It Work
How ListeningPal Works
Easy onboarding
Users start by creating an account and purchasing credits for use in the app on the ListeningPal website.
After creating an account and downloading the ListeningPal app, users can login and begin scheduling appointments with "listening pals".
Intuitive appointment scheduling
Users can make appointments from 7am PST to 9pm PST up to 6 hours in advance.
After going through the confirmation process, the appointment is added to their schedule.
On the listener side, listeners will see this appointment and claim it to add it to their schedule.
Thirty minute peer support calls
When it is time for a user's appointment, they click the calendar event to join the call. Users must agree to the terms of service and confirm they are not in crisis to join the call with the "listening pal".
Users remain anonymous to listeners making it easier to share freely.
After the call, users can report either technical difficulties or any issues with their "listening pal".
Additional Resources
ListeningPal is not a therapy service and sometimes our users' issues will extend beyond their scope. Additional resources are provided to users in case of this.
